对于8月16日，国家文物局确认‘太阳神鸟’金箔图案为中国文化遗产标志，张明认为这决非偶然。他认为“太阳神鸟”图案有着极高的历史文化价值。“太阳神鸟”系古蜀先民3000年前创作的金箔图案，2001年出土，该图案内容为四只神鸟围绕太阳飞翔，整个图案呈圆形，四只神鸟分别位于圆内接正方形的四个顶点，美轮美奂、神彩飞扬，充分显示了古蜀先民的创造性思维，是数学与美学的高度统一，美感与灵性的结晶，是古蜀文明的象征，体现了成都的灵韵之气，“灵”指智慧，“韵”表生活，即成都人一贯追求智慧型生活。选中“太阳神鸟”作为中国文化遗产标志，意味着“太阳神鸟”不但是古蜀文明、巴蜀文明的象征，更是中华文明的象征；意味着古蜀文明、巴蜀文明作为整个中华文明的有机组成部分，这一事实得到了凸显。

张明说，选中“太阳神鸟”作为中国文化遗产标志，是多方面努力的结果，其中包括他个人的贡献。国家文物局自去年以来，在全国范围内举办征集中国文化遗产标志的活动，对先期收到的应征作品，该局都不满意。成都市政府得知此信息后，向国家文物局大力推荐“太阳神鸟”图案作为中国文化遗产标志，受到国家文物局的高度重视，经反复论证，国家文物局终于决定采用“太阳神鸟”图案作为中国文化遗产标志。
